About Me

Hi, my name is Conrad Kiyoshi, and I am a science teacher at Tinian Jr./Sr. High School. I graduated with a BS in Biology at University of Nevada, Reno, and with a PhD in Biomedical Sciences at The Ohio State University. My hobbies include baking, reading, and swimming. I am particularly intrigued with French desserts and have been attempting to make it at home

French desserts

I am not much of a dessert or sweets person as I don't like the excessive sugar found in many dishes. However, I found that I can enjoy French and French-inspired Japanese desserts where the sweetness isn't overpowering as found in many American desserts. I've been exploring the different types of desserts and the history behind their creation. A popular French confection is the macaron, an almond flour-based cookie that comes in a multitude of flavors and colors. I've also started enjoying madeleines which goes perfect with coffee or tea. I am currently looking to try canelés, which also looks to also be great with coffee or tea. The link below is a good start to check out the variety of French desserts, and the YouTube video is a way to try your hand at making a canelé. Top 10 French pastries you should know

End of course Reflection

I have learned quite a bit of new things about the apps in this course. At first, many were familiar since I used it often or very similar to paid products, such as Gmail and Google Docs respectively. However, I did learn some new advanced functions with the familiar apps. I also learned about apps I never used before and how to use them. I actually never used Google Earth despite knowing about it a long time ago. I am currently thinking of ways to incorporate these apps into the classroom. One idea I'm playing around with is using Jamboard as a way to collectively design an experiment before a lab activity. I can also see Google Earth being integral to courses like Environmental Science. Data charts are important to science, so Google Sheets chart creation is great as part of the curriculum. One app I would like to learn more about is Google Classroom. Many teachers are using that as part of their class organization, and I am slowly getting familiarized myself.
