EdTech Program

What are your overall thoughts on the Ed Tech program? My overall thoughts about the Ed Tech program is that it's a valuable program to teachers looking to understand and integrate technology into classroom management and learning. It is especially helpful for me as a relatively new science teacher who is looking to integrate technology with lab activities. What were some of the most challenging topics of the program? I think some of the most challenging topics was the Digital Citizenship course and Instructional Design with Technology. Digital Citizenship was fairly challenging as we were learning about concepts such as Law, Literacy, and Safety, which was different in content than the other modules. Instructional Design was also challenging for myself as I do not have an Education background, so I had to learn about Education concepts on top of what's required for the module. What was the most important thing you have learned in the program? The most important thing I've ...

Collaboration Self-Assessment

  1.       You will describe your strengths and weaknesses regarding these self-assessments. My strengths lie in my flexibility and desire to put forth my best effort on assigned tasks. I can take the role of a leader or a follower as a task calls for it. I also welcome and encourage a collaborative environment where anyone can share ideas no matter if they believe it will be well received or not.   2.       What is your plan for using your strengths to enhance the collaborative nature of your current position. My plan is to use my strengths as a leader and follower to set the example of a collaborative group effort, and facilitate discussion in an environment of respect and courtesy. If necessary, I can help lead the collaboration as necessary and then step back into a follower role.     3.       How can you improve upon your weaknesses to become a more skilled and effective collabo...

Instructional Design with Technology

What are your overall thoughts on this course? Overall, I enjoyed this particular course. I think the organization help facilitated the learning process, especially if I want to target a particular method. For example, if I wanted to implement personalized learning, I can see the different tool to help me implement that. If I want to gamify a lesson, there are a multitude of tools to try out. I think the expansion of this course would be very helpful, especially for new teachers and instructors. What were some websites and resources you found useful in your profession? I think the major websites and resources I found useful are the gamify assessments Kahoot and Quizizz. I've had some success in challenging students in a game-like fashion, so I've been looking at what other ways to make learning more fun. A suggestion of Classcraft from the discussions is something I want to look into. I was also exposed to new tools such as choice boards and hyperdocs, and I'm eager to fin...

Student Tech Products Reflection

What are your overall thoughts on this course? Overall, I enjoyed the course Student Tech Products very much. It showcased a number of different applications that I can use in the classroom to enhance learning the content. In addition, I thought the instructors did a great job in explaining the process of using these applications so that we could create our own content. What were some student tech products you found useful in your profession? I found that Canva, Easelly, iMovie, and Poster my Wall to be useful for students to use in creating their projects. In addition, Flipgrid and Screencast-O-matic is very useful especially students who have to take an extended leave for personal or medical reasons. I have used Screencast-O-matic before for online college classes, and it is very helpful in creating lectures for students to view on their own time. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using student technology products/applications for your profession? I think the main advantag...

Digital Citizenship - Self Reflection

Image
The most important thing I've learned in the course is the relationship between technology and digital health and wellness. Technology is prevalent and integrated within our daily lives, so I believe it is extremely important to be aware and understand the impacts of technology on our physical and mental health. As many jobs are partially or completely at the computer desk, I've learned to be mindful of eye strain, joint pain from repetitive movements, and proper ergonomics are important for digital wellness. One idea how I plan to integrate Digital Citizenship in the classroom is to have hands on activities, information stations, and contests on best practices of being a digital citizen. For example, I could have stations addressing digital health and wellness where students learn best sitting posture, typing ergonomics, etc. I could have a monthly contest for students demonstrating proper posture during the week. All parts of being a digital citizen can be integrated wit...

About Me

Hi, my name is Conrad Kiyoshi, and I am a science teacher at Tinian Jr./Sr. High School. I graduated with a BS in Biology at University of Nevada, Reno, and with a PhD in Biomedical Sciences at The Ohio State University. My hobbies include baking, reading, and swimming. I am particularly intrigued with French desserts and have been attempting to make it at home

French desserts

Image
I am not much of a dessert or sweets person as I don't like the excessive sugar found in many dishes. However, I found that I can enjoy French and French-inspired Japanese desserts where the sweetness isn't overpowering as found in many American desserts. I've been exploring the different types of desserts and the history behind their creation. A popular French confection is the macaron, an almond flour-based cookie that comes in a multitude of flavors and colors. I've also started enjoying madeleines which goes perfect with coffee or tea. I am currently looking to try canelés, which also looks to also be great with coffee or tea. The link below is a good start to check out the variety of French desserts, and the YouTube video is a way to try your hand at making a canelé. Top 10 French pastries you should know
